The Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a new global competition open to players from all around the world on the Nintendo Switch. This event honors the in-person Nintendo World Championships that were held in 1990, 2015, and 2017.
On July 18th, participants will have the opportunity to test their skills from home in an online format. Players are encouraged to practice by breaking their own records in single-player mode (Speedrun) before moving on to compete locally in Party mode. Subscription to Nintendo Switch Online will grant access to the World Championship mode, where players can compete in five rotating challenges each week to try and secure a place on the global leaderboard.
The challenges will be based on classic NES games such as Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby’s Adventure, Metroid, Super Mario Bros., and others. Additionally, on July 18th
