In 2021, NYU Langone Health and Long Island Community Hospital received approval from state and federal authorities to affiliate. As a result, NYU Langone became the active parent organization of the 306-bed medical center. This affiliation plan was announced in the summer of that year.
While Long Island Community Hospital remains a separate corporation, its affiliation with NYU Langone will allow it to access the resources of the larger system. A full merger is expected to take place in approximately one year, according to a spokesperson for the health system who spoke with Becker’s.
As part of this affiliation plan, Long Island Community Hospital would undergo a name change and become a division within the NYU Langone hospital system. This move would integrate the hospital into the larger NYU Langone network to provide enhanced healthcare services to the community.
