Outstanding performances: 7 Eugene area athletes shine in spring sports competition

As the high school spring sports season approaches its end, athletes in Eugene area continue to showcase their skills and achieve remarkable performances. This week’s Register-Guard Athlete of the Week nominees include Springfield softball player Reagan Kumle, Churchill girls tennis player McKenzie Larsen, Thurston boys golf player Trison Hedges, North Eugene baseball player Aiden Hibler, Marist boys golf player Anthony Angelastro, North Eugene girls golf player Francesca Tomp, and Thurston girls golf player Camille Gamble.

Reagan Kumle of Springfield had an outstanding performance on the field last week. In a game against Ashland, he hit a double and scored a run while driving in three runs for his team’s 10-3 victory. Meanwhile, Churchill junior McKenzie Larsen secured two wins at No. 1 singles in girls tennis by defeating opponents from North Eugene and Willamette.

Thurston senior Trison Hedges finished in second place at the boys 5A Midwestern League District Championships in golf with a two-day score of 162. North Eugene’s freshman baseball player Aiden Hibler contributed significantly to the Highlanders’ 2-1 series win over Crater with four hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

In boys golf, Marist senior Anthony Angelastro placed third at the Shadow Hills Marshfield Invitational with a score of 81. He helped his team secure the overall title with his exceptional performance on the course. North Eugene junior Francesca Tomp clinched victory at the girls 5A Midwestern League District Championships in golf with a two-day score of 152. Her outstanding play on the green earned her recognition as one of this week’s top performers.

Thurston sophomore Camille Gamble achieved an impressive feat by hitting a hole-in-one at the girls 5A Midwestern League District Championships last week. She also registered an overall score of 215 that earned her recognition as one of this week’s top performers on the field.
