An armed individual was taken into custody without incident by Normal Police at 12:31 P.M., following an incident that began around 10:17 a.m. when officers were called to the 200 block of Susan Drive for a subject armed with a knife. The officers surrounded the individual and initiated communication with them, successfully de-escalating the situation by 11:40 a.m.
The police department’s crisis negotiation team, Illinois State University Police, and McLean County Sheriff’s Office were all present at the scene. A later update at 12:20 P.M. confirmed that the scene was secure and no longer active, with no threats to the public and no reported injuries. Normal Police and other local law enforcement agencies requested that the public avoid the area of Susan and Parkway Plaza drives due to the ongoing situation. They also advised staying away from nearby businesses for safety.
