Garden City Elementary School recently received a Green Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education for their efforts in reducing environmental impact, improving the health and wellness of students and staff, and offering sustainability education. The school’s assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, will be honored during an event that aims to break down the stigma surrounding discussions about children’s mental health.
The event will take place on National Mental Health Awareness Month and will kick off at 9:30 a.m. During the event, leaders will engage in conversations with students about their well-being and provide resources and intervention opportunities within Rhode Island schools. The focus will be on mental health awareness, with a tour of the new school’s wellness spaces that promote mental health taking center stage.
This significant step towards supporting the mental well-being of children in the community is being recognized as an important milestone in addressing the needs of young people who may be struggling with mental health issues. By promoting open conversations and providing support for students, families, and caregivers, this event is helping to reduce stigma and create a more inclusive environment for all members of our community.
