Cars produced after July 7 this year will now come equipped with black boxes that record essential data during collisions. These black boxes, located in the airbag of the car, capture information such as brake pressure, steering wheel angle, gas pedal activity, gear revolutions and the time of collision. Krunoslav Ormuž, a traffic court expert, spoke to Nova TV about the details of these black boxes.
The data collected by these black boxes cannot be deactivated or installed in the vehicle afterward, ensuring its accuracy. However, there are concerns about the potential misuse of this data and regulations must be established to prevent it from being used for nefarious purposes. Kristijan Tićak, editor-in-chief of Auto motor i sport magazine emphasized the importance of clear legal regulations associated with the black box system.
Black boxes have the potential to prevent fraudulent reporting of traffic accidents. For example, it will no longer be possible to drink and drive then sober up and report an incident the next day as precise timing data will be recorded. Previously smartphones were used to determine causation but now black boxes provide more detailed and accurate data for investigations into traffic accidents. This information is crucial for authorities to determine potential speed mobile phone use and other relevant factors that led to an accident.
