Michael Tonkin has been added to the New York Yankees roster after being claimed off waivers from the Mets. This move allows Tonkin, who has been designated for assignment three times this season, to continue playing in New York.
Tonkin started the season with the Mets but was designated for assignment (DFA) and traded to the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations. He only appeared in one game for the Twins before being DFA’d again and picked up by the Mets. However, he made just two appearances before being DFA’d by the Mets once more.
With a 6.00 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 9.0 innings over six appearances this season, Tonkin has had a challenging year. In order to add Tonkin to the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated right-handed pitcher McKinley Moore for assignment.
