Thousands of people join the army in Russia seeking vengeance for Moscow terrorist attack

Russia has experienced a surge in the number of citizens signing up for military service contracts, with over 100,000 individuals enlisting since the beginning of the year. This is a significant increase compared to previous years. In the past 10 days alone, 16,000 people have signed up for military service. Many of these new recruits cited their desire for justice and revenge against terrorists as their motivation for joining the army.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that this surge in enlistments was driven by a desire for vengeance against those responsible for terrorist attacks in Moscow. Under current laws, conscripts cannot be mobilized for combat missions outside Russia’s borders, so the Russian army is relying on professional soldiers who sign long-term contracts. These soldiers receive extensive training and are equipped with modern weapons and technology.

In response to rising security threats, Russia plans to establish two additional combined military groups and 30 new units this year. The country’s Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, made this announcement with the goal of strengthening Russia’s defense forces. The tragic incident at Crocus City Hall theater in Moscow has heightened tensions between Russia and its neighbors, leading many citizens to seek opportunities to serve their country in some capacity.

The self-proclaimed Islamic State’s Afghan branch (IS-K) has claimed responsibility for the attack on Crocus City Hall theater in Moscow, while Ukraine has denied involvement in any way. However, there have been allegations made by Russian officials that Western and Ukrainian intelligence were behind the attack.

As a result of these heightened security threats, Russia is encouraging more citizens to join its armed forces as professional soldiers. Posters and advertisements promoting military service are visible across cities throughout Russia.

Overall, it appears that Russia is taking steps to strengthen its defense capabilities and address evolving security challenges through increased recruitment efforts.
