New establishment adds genuine acai bowls to downtown Ann Arbor

Lucas and Jamille Chamon were drawn to the vibrant community of Ann Arbor and decided to introduce their concept of authentic açaí bowls and smoothies to the area. Originally from Brazil, the couple had moved back to Michigan after a brief stay in 2015 and missed the açaí bowls they enjoyed at home. They chose to open Samba Bowls at 113 W. Washington St., which had previously been Vogel’s Lock and Safe before closing in March 2018.

Since early June, Samba Bowls has been providing customers with fresh, Brazilian-based açaí bowls made with tropical fruits imported directly from Brazil. The bases include açaí with guarana, mango with passionfruit, pitaya with passionfruit, açaí sweetened with dates, and cupuaçu. To achieve the perfect texture, Samba Bowls uses an ice cream machine and focuses on natural sweetness from fruits rather than added sugars.

Customers can customize their bowls or choose from Samba Bowl’s signature menu options. Lucas mentioned that they plan to add new bases and unique fruits to keep the menu exciting in the future. Samba Bowls is open seven days a week from 10 am to 8:30 pm on Sunday through Thursday and 10 am to 9 pm on Friday and Saturday. Visit their website or social media pages for more information about this delicious treat!
