Sand Land: A Tribute to Akira Toriyama’s Legacy and the Power of Prejudice

“Sand Land” is a new open-world game that has been highly anticipated by gamers. Not only does it offer a unique take on the genre, but it was also created by the legendary Akira Toriyama, known for his work on classic series like “Dragon Ball” and “Dr. Slump.” The pressure to deliver a great game increased after Toriyama’s sudden death in March, which made fans even more protective of his legacy.

Fortunately, “Sand Land” lives up to expectations as a competent adaptation of the source material. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that resembles “Mad Max,” where water control is used as a tool of oppression by the powerful. The story follows unconventional heroes like Beelzebub, Sheriff Rao, and Thief, who band together to fight against prejudice, trauma, and exploitation while maintaining an optimistic tone.

The addition of a new character named Ann brings a mysterious lineage and mechanical skills to the story. However, some aspects of the game could use more depth, such as hand-to-hand combat and stealth systems. The open world is varied in towns but lacks substance overall, with activities feeling repetitive as in the “Far Cry” formula.

Despite these flaws, “Sand Land” still offers an enjoyable experience thanks to its endearing characters and Toriyama’s storytelling prowess. In conclusion, this game is a testament to Toriyama’s ability to create stories that resonate globally despite their shortcomings.
