Senators Unite to Advocate for Disaster Declarations in Ohio after Tornadoes Strike Central Ohio

On March 14, 2024, tornadoes struck Central Ohio causing significant damage to homes, apartments and businesses. The economic damage in Logan County has been particularly severe due to the losses sustained by families and businesses. In response, U.S Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and J.D. Vance (R-OH) have joined forces to advocate for a disaster declaration for Logan County from the Small Business Administration (SBA). This declaration would provide support for businesses and homes that were damaged by the tornadoes.

Governor DeWine has also requested a disaster declaration in hopes of making low-interest loans available to businesses that need assistance in repairing the damage caused by the tornadoes. The impact of the tornadoes was felt across 11 counties in the region, but it was particularly devastating for families and businesses in Logan County.

The senators have also urged the Biden Administration to issue a FEMA disaster declaration for several other counties in Ohio that were affected by tornadoes, including Auglaize, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hancock, Licking, Mercer, Miami, Richland and Union. They believe that securing disaster declarations for these areas is crucial to ensuring that communities receive the support they need to recover and rebuild after natural disasters.

In conclusion, Senators Brown and Vance are working tirelessly with Governor DeWine to ensure that affected communities receive the necessary assistance they need to recover from natural disasters such as tornadoes. By advocating for disaster declarations at both the state and federal levels, they hope to ensure that Ohioans have access to resources and support during times of crisis.
