Shining a Light on Diversity: MVYRadio Announces Latest Business Grants Recipients

MVYRadio in West Tisbury has announced the latest winners of their Business Diversity Initiative grants. The recipients of these grants, which aim to provide airtime to business owners from traditionally underserved backgrounds, are Gillian Inspired Designs of East Sandwich and Sun and the Moon Consignment of Cotuit. Each grant is valued at $1,200, and since 2021, MVYRadio has donated $40,200 worth of airtime to this grant program.

Gillian Inspired Designs is a woman-owned business that specializes in designing and hand-crafting jewelry for over 15 years. Sun and the Moon Consignment, also woman-owned, offers a variety of home décor, furniture, and women’s clothing. The goal of these grants is not only to support local businesses owned by women, minority communities, veterans, disabled individuals, and the LGBTQIA+ community but also to reach new audiences in the broadcast area who may not be familiar with MVYRadio.

MV Barkery in Vineyard Haven is another grant recipient this quarter. It is a woman- and disability community member-owned business that creates and sells homemade dog treats on the island. Tristan Israel, MVYRadio board member and co-chair of the equity and inclusion action group expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support locally owned businesses through the Business Diversity Initiative.

Businesses interested in applying for the next round of grants can submit their applications by June 30th with awards expected to be announced in early July. More information about the program can be found on MVYRadio’s website at mvyradio.org/diversity.
