Step Inside the Chicago Water Tower’s New Emotional Journey: A Disco Ball Adventure into Mental Health and Art

Chicago’s Water Tower has just opened a new exhibit that focuses on mental health and provides visitors with an immersive experience that explores their emotions. The 5,000-square-foot interactive art installation, designed by Janine Williams, is located on the fourth floor of Water Tower Place and aims to provoke introspection in its guests.

As soon as visitors enter the exhibit, they are greeted by a disco ball dreamland featuring a 360-degree photo booth. This sets the tone for the emotional journey they will embark on. At the heart of the exhibit is the interactive Mood Room, where visitors are guided through exercises aimed at promoting reflection and emotional processing. The carefully curated colors throughout the space help to amplify and influence emotional experiences.

Williams drew inspiration for this project from her personal mental health journey. She wanted to create a safe and colorful space for people like herself to tap into their emotions in a fun way. In addition to the Mood Room, visitors can explore a Secret Garden and try out Kites Ice Diner, showcasing artist Kristopher Kites’ works from Chicago’s South Side.
