Sweden Snatches Bronze Medal from Canada in Ice Hockey World Championships with Goal from the Left Boards

In the bronze medal match of the ice hockey world championship on Sunday, May 26, 2024, Sweden emerged victorious over Canada with a score of 4-2. The standout player for Sweden was Carl Grundstrom, who netted two goals to lead his team to victory. Grundstrom scored the winning goal with just 6:18 remaining in the final period with a shot from the left boards at Prague Arena. Defenseman Erik Karlsson and Marcus Johansson also contributed goals for Sweden, with goaltender Filip Gustavsson making 20 saves in the win.

This marked Sweden’s first podium finish since their back-to-back titles in 2018. Despite a loss to the Czech Republic earlier in the tournament, Sweden showed resilience in bouncing back to secure the bronze medal. Victor Hedman, another defenseman for Sweden, praised his team’s effort in the quick turnaround to play five games in seven days.

For Canada, the loss was a disappointing end to their tournament. Scoring leaders Dylan Cozens and Pierre-Luc Dubois found the back of the net, but it was not enough to overcome Sweden. Captain John Tavares expressed pride in representing Canada and acknowledged that his team fell short of their goal to win the gold medal.
