Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone smashes 400m hurdles world record in 50.65 seconds, secures victory at U.S. Olympic Team Trials

In the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has once again set a new world record in the 400m hurdles. At the U.S. Olympic Team Trials held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, she clocked an impressive time of 50.65, surpassing her previous world record of 50.68 set at the World Championships two years ago on the same track.

McLaughlin-Levrone’s exceptional performance not only secured her spot in Paris but also outshined Dutch rival Femke Bol’s time of 52.49 at the European Championships earlier in June. From start to finish, McLaughlin-Levrone displayed determination and composure, capturing the attention and support of the crowd at Hayward Field during the ten-day championships.

After her remarkable achievement, McLaughlin-Levrone expressed her gratitude and surprise at being able to break her own world record once again. She attributed her success to her relentless focus on perfecting her stride pattern and pushing herself to constantly improve on the track. Fellow athletes Anna Cockrell and Jasmine Jones finished in second and third place respectively and will also be heading to Paris alongside McLaughlin-Levrone.

Looking back on her performance, McLaughlin-Levrone emphasized her commitment to exploring different strategies and approaches to running the race. With a mindset focused on improvement and constantly challenging herself on the track, she remains determined to see what more she can accomplish in the future as she continues to set new standards in track and field athletics.

World Athletics has yet to confirm whether or not this achievement will be recognized as a new world record but regardless it sets a new standard for athletes around the world who are striving for greatness in their sport.
