Suffolk police confirmed that a fire was reported at the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, the site of famed scientist Nikola Tesla’s final laboratory in Shoreham, at 4:49 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire was located at the corner of Tesla and Robinson streets.

Dozens of firefighters from multiple departments were dispatched to the scene and were working tirelessly to put out the blaze. Flames were seen leaping from the northeast portion of the main building on the site, just below the famous peak of the building.

Firefighters arrived an hour later and continued to battle the blaze as they worked to contain it before it could spread to other parts of the building or surrounding structures. It is not yet clear what caused the fire, but investigators are currently on scene gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
