The Belgian e-commerce federation Becom is urging for immediate action to combat the unfair competition between Chinese and European webshops. They are advocating for stricter customs enforcement and penalties for Chinese companies that do not comply with regulations, potentially leading to their shutdown.
According to Becom’s managing director, Greet Dekocker, the issue lies in the bundled parcels from China that cannot be thoroughly checked in Europe, creating compliance loopholes. To address this problem, Becom is calling for adjustments to European regulations that will enable more effective checks on Chinese imports. They propose additional information requirements for Chinese manufacturers and platforms, as well as increased customs scrutiny in Belgium.
