Jayson Tatum Surprised by Celtics Owner’s Decision to Sell Stake in Team

As the Boston Celtics celebrate their 18th NBA championship, they may be facing significant changes in the future. Jayson Tatum expressed his surprise upon learning that owner Wyc Grousbeck plans to sell his stake in the team. During his JT Elite camp in Las Vegas, Tatum told Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix that he was “shocked” by Grousbeck’s decision to sell and expressed his hope that the foundation and structure of the team remains unchanged.

The Celtics had a successful season and won the NBA title by defeating the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 in the NBA Finals after dominating the postseason. It seems like most of the roster will be returning to defend their title next season. The team’s star player, Jayson Tatum, has agreed to a lucrative five-year, $314 million extension, making him the highest-paid player in NBA history. Point guard Derrick White has also re-signed for a four-year, $126 million contract. With Tatum, White, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis all under contract through the 2026-27 season, the Celtics are in a strong position moving forward.

Whatever changes may come to ownership of the Celtics will not change their poised position for continued success. If there is anyone looking to buy into this franchise it would be wise as they have built something special that should remain that way according to Jayson Tatum
