The Grand Château d’Armainvilliers: A Record-Breaking Sale in the Works!

In the early 20th century, the estate had grown to an impressive size of 3,961 hectares. With its grandeur that spans over 100 rooms across three floors, it includes three elevators, 17 themed bedroom suites and five salons. The property boasts various amenities such as stables for 50 horses, a beauty parlor, hammam and housing for staff members.

After the death of Edmond, the home was passed down to different members of the Rothschild family before being sold to the King of Morocco in the 1980s. However, it has been vacant since then and is currently up for sale by an owner from the Middle East who purchased it in 2008. Ignace Meuwissen, co-founder of Whisper Auctions who is handling the sale told Mansion Global that there has been interest from potential buyers from East Europe, Asia and even Mongolia.

If Château d’Armainvilliers goes for anywhere near its reported asking price, it will easily claim the crown as the most expensive house in the world. Meuwissen stated that most properties they sell are on a whispering basis; properties change owners mostly confidentiality. The home is likely to change hands behind closed doors and if it does go for its asking price then it will be a record-breaking sale.
