Third Largest Heart Attack Caused by Smoking: Story of 56-Year-Old Mr. Thong’s Miraculous Recovery

56-year-old Mr. Thong experienced sudden left chest pain and nearly a day later, he decided to go to the hospital for an examination. The doctor diagnosed him with acute myocardial infarction, which was caused by a completely blocked right coronary artery with blood clots stuck in the vessel’s lumen. Mr. Thong had larger blood vessels than normal, making intervention challenging.

Dr. Vo Anh Minh from the Vascular Intervention Center at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City explained that the medical team performed a successful thrombectomy to remove the blood clots, relieving Mr. Thong of chest pain and stabilizing his heart rate and blood pressure. Dr. Huynh Ngoc Long, the Director of the Vascular Intervention Center at the same hospital, stated that after the thrombus aspiration, an angioplasty stent was not needed as the vessel lumen was no longer narrowed.

Dr. Long explained that smoking can lead to atherosclerosis and the formation of blood clots in coronary arteries due to various mechanisms. He warned that smokers are at a higher risk of heart attacks and other complications than non-smokers and emphasized the importance of regular check-ups and screenings for cardiovascular disease in long-term smokers. Mr. Thong’s smoking habits, one pack a day for over 30 years, were identified as a major risk factor for the formation of blood clots leading to acute myocardial infarction.

To reduce his risk of re-occlusion in the coronary artery, Dr. Long advised Mr. Thong to quit smoking, exercise moderately, and maintain a healthy diet.

In conclusion, acute myocardial infarction is caused by various factors such as smoking habits and high blood pressure levels. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment outcomes like thrombectomy and angioplasty stents insertion when necessary.

The patient should continue taking medications prescribed by his doctor regularly while following a healthy lifestyle to avoid any recurrence of heart attack or any other complications related to cardiovascular disease in future.

Mr. Thong’s story highlights how important it is to seek medical help immediately if experiencing sudden chest pain or shortness of breath as it could lead to life-threatening conditions like acute myocardial infarction if left untreated.

Furthermore, regular checkups and screenings are necessary for people who smoke regularly or have other risk factors for cardiovascular diseases such as high cholesterol levels or hypertension.

Overall, quitting smoking is crucial for reducing risks related to heart attacks and other complications related to cardiovascular diseases such as acute myocardial infarction or stroke among others.
