One person was killed and another injured in a fire that broke out at a strip mall in Carmel early Thursday morning. The Carmel Fire Department responded to the blaze at 3:30 a.m. in the 9800 block of N. Michigan Road, where they discovered the man’s body inside the building. Another person was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital with fire-related injuries, while a Carmel firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the flames.
The fire resulted in Michigan Road near 96th Street being closed in both directions for safety reasons, as investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. Tim Griffin, Public Information Officer at Carmel Fire Department, expressed condolences to the families and businesses affected by the tragedy and assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine how this unfortunate incident occurred.
