Murray had recently made a comeback in his career by winning the Sony Open earlier this year, breaking a long winless streak. Despite his success, Murray had been open about his struggles with mental health and physical issues. Just days before his death, he withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, citing illness.
Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray was considered a promising junior player, winning multiple titles as a young golfer. He made history at a young age by being one of the youngest to make the cut on the PGA’s developmental Korn Ferry Tour at 16 years old. By age 19, he had participated in the US Open in 2013 and went on to win the Barbasol Championship in 2017 at just 23 years old.
