Treasury Secretary Yellen Visits Detroit to Emphasize Small Business Support

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has invited Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to Detroit to highlight the Biden administration’s support for small businesses in Michigan and across the US. The visit comes at a pivotal time for President Biden, who received both support and opposition from protesters demonstrating outside of a United Auto Workers hall during a recent campaign stop in Warren.

In Detroit, Yellen will be joined by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer as she attends several events where she will promote three legislations – the Inflation Reduction Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the CHIPS and Science Act. She will also visit Michigan Central to take a tour and join a roundtable with U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and local entrepreneurs.

During her visit, Yellen will celebrate what she terms as a “small business boom” in the US economy, with 16 million new business applications being filed in the first three years of the administration. This marks a significant increase compared to previous years, indicating that small businesses are thriving under President Biden’s leadership.

Yellen has made similar visits to Illinois and Wisconsin, emphasizing the importance of supporting small businesses as they drive economic growth and create jobs. Her last visit to Michigan was in September 2022 when she delivered remarks at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, further highlighting the administration’s commitment to promoting innovation and technology in manufacturing.
