After being convicted of contempt of Congress in July 2022, former Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison in October of the same year. However, US District Judge Carl Nichols suspended Bannon’s sentence while he appealed the decision. Despite this, the Supreme Court denied his appeal and Nichols ordered Bannon to report to prison by July 1.
Bannon attempted to avoid serving his sentence by defying subpoenas from the January 6 commission, but this ultimately led to his conviction and incarceration. Despite his efforts to challenge the charges against him, Bannon will now have to face the consequences of his actions and serve his prison sentence.
This development marks the latest chapter in Bannon’s legal troubles stemming from his involvement in the events surrounding January 6. The judge stated that there was no justification for continuing to delay Bannon’s sentencing and incarceration, and with no further legal avenues to pursue, Bannon will have to comply with the order and report to prison by Monday.
