UNC Health Reaches Long-Term Agreement with UnitedHealthcare, Securing Care for Thousands of North Carolina Patients

A long-term agreement has been reached between UNC Health and UnitedHealthcare, ensuring that thousands of North Carolina patients will continue to receive care at UNC clinics and hospitals. The previous contract was set to expire on April 1, but the new agreement covers patients under United’s commercial, Individual Exchange, and Medicare Advantage plans.

This news is a relief for patients across the state who had been concerned about increased costs and the stress of going out of network or finding new providers for their care. Dr. Matt Ewend, chief clinical officer at UNC Health, stated that the new agreement will benefit patients by avoiding these issues and maintaining access to quality care from their UNC providers.

Negotiations between UNC Health and UnitedHealthcare began last year and a deal was reached this week. This agreement follows a similar long-term contract recently announced with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

UNC Health is committed to communicating this news to its patients under UnitedHealthcare to reassure them that their UNC providers will remain the same. This is just one example of how UNC Health is working to maintain strong relationships with insurance providers in order to provide the best possible care for its patients.
