Unlock Your Career in Wildlife Conservation: Jefferson Community College’s Zoo Technology Program Opens Registration for Fall Semester

Jefferson Community College’s Zoo Technology program is now open for registration for the fall semester or prerequisites during the summer. Program Director Dr. Mark Irwin and Keirsten Chiodi recently appeared on 7 News at Noon to discuss the program. Students in the program gain hands-on experience working with zookeepers, veterinarians, curators, educators, and administrators.

The capstone project of this year’s class will include providing animal enrichment education and presentations at Zoo New York’s season kickoff on May 4. JCC’s Zoo Technology program offers the necessary training and experience for students to provide technical expertise and a strong scientific background to care for animals, educate the public, and participate in cooperative programs regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Graduates of the program have found jobs across the country, including internships in places like Alaska. Starting the Zoo Technology program at JCC in the fall is recommended, with prerequisites in Math and English required. These prerequisites can be completed during the summer session, with special classes starting on May 28 and early and full-session courses beginning on June 3.
