UVM women’s lacrosse player, Ava Vasile, made history by becoming the new all-time scoring leader. She surpassed the previous record of 255 set by Sydney Mas with a fourth goal in the second half against LeMoyne at Virtue Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Vasile had tied the record with two goals in the first quarter and broke it with a third goal before adding two more goals later in the game. This brought her total to 259 goals and counting, making her UVM’s all-time leading scorer. She expressed her disbelief and happiness at achieving this milestone, noting that she had dreamt about it as a freshman and was thrilled to see it come true.
Head coach Sarah Dalton Graddock commended Vasile for her hard work over her five-year career at UVM, highlighting the significance of breaking a record that had stood for nine years. With two games remaining in the season, Vasile now has her sights set on breaking Mas’s all-time goals record of 211, needing just seven more goals to tie or eight more goals to surpass it.
Vasile’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and skill as a player, and her record-breaking performance has solidified her place in UVM women’s lacrosse history.
