LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Framatome announced on Thursday that they’re relaunching their Nuclear Technology Academy at Central Virginia Community College.

Initially starting in 2004, Framatome has now committed $400,000 to this modernized program that they say will help meet the needs of a challenged workforce.

Katherine Williams is Framatome’s current CFO, but soon-to-be CEO, said that as the demand for clean energy increases, so does the need for skilled employees. She said that’s where Framatome comes in.

“We have the technology. We simply need the workforce, the resources, people who are committed and willing to make the effort through this program to get trained, and then we will take it from there and give you lots of opportunities,” said Williams.

Craig Ranson, Senior Vice President of Installed Base America at Framatome said that the education and work experience that students would be getting is unique. Students can earn an Associate’s degree in Applied Science while working for Framatome.

“They get valuable work experience while they’re also going back and forth between classes and their work. They get benefits; they get vacation; and they graduate debt-free and the opportunity to have a full-time job at Framatome,” said Ranson.

CVCC has 30 students already enrolled in this program that begins in the Fall of 2023.
