Lima-based operator WIN has partnered with Huawei to deploy symmetrical XGSPON technology, aiming to improve fiber optics in residential homes and small businesses. The company plans to gradually expand the network to other nodes, achieving symmetrical speeds of up to 10Gbps, a significant improvement over the current network’s GPON technology that allows speeds of up to 1Gbps.
WIN’s commercial vice president, Víctor Jáuregui, emphasized the company’s commitment to improving connectivity in Peru and driving digital transformation in the market. The company is focused on developing equipment that supports this technology to massify it and make it accessible to more users.
According to the latest data from regulator Osiptel, WIN achieved third place in the local market in 3Q23, with 436,093 users. This puts them behind Telefónica and Claro but represents a massive growth of 282% annually compared to the same period last year.
