WPIAL Spring Playoff Preview: District Softball, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Baseball and Boys Volleyball Set for Action

WPIAL offices are set to be busy in the coming days with spring bracketology for softball, boys and girls lacrosse playoffs. On Thursday, steering committees will meet to put together brackets for the district softball playoffs and lacrosse tournaments. The WPIAL Playoff Pairings Show will air at 2 p.m. Thursday on Trib HSSN, breaking down the softball playoff brackets.

In Section 1-3A, Upper St. Clair has secured a playoff berth but if they lose and Bethel Park upsets Canon-McMillan, both teams would earn postseason spots. In Section 2-2A, Derry has a chance to make it a four-way tie for second place and clinch a playoff spot with a win on Thursday.

On Friday, the brackets for district baseball and boys volleyball playoffs will be released, with the Baseball Playoff Pairing Show airing at noon on Trib HSSN. Several WPIAL teams have the opportunity to claim a section title with a win on Thursday in boys volleyball. North Allegheny and Shaler are tied for first in Section 2-3A while Penn-Trafford can secure an outright section win with a victory in Section 3-3A. North Catholic and South Fayette also have the chance to secure a share of the title in their respective sections with wins.

The regular season is almost over, but some possible additions could change the WPIAL Class 3A playoff field depending on how things go tonight.

With just one more night left in the regular season, several teams are fighting for their place in the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs.

In Section 1-3A, Upper St. Clair has locked up a spot but if they lose tonight and Bethel Park wins against Canon-McMillan then both teams could make it into postseason contention.

Meanwhile in Section 2-2A, Derry is one win away from securing their spot as well as tying for second place which would give them an automatic bid into postseason contention.

As we approach Friday’s release of brackets for district baseball and boys volleyball playoffs, several teams are still vying for section titles which could give them an advantage come tournament time.

In boys volleyball North Allegheny and Shaler are currently tied atop of Section 2-3A while Penn-Trafford is only one game behind them both which means they have an opportunity to secure an outright section win if they can pull off that victory tonight.

Additionally North Catholic is currently tied with Trinity High School in second place of Section 1-3A so if they can pull off that victory today they would secure that fourth seeded spot as well.

South Fayette is currently tied with Greensburg Central Catholic High School in first place of Section 4-3A so if they can pull off that victory today they would secure that fourth seeded spot as well.
