10 High School Students Gain Real-World Experience and Technical Skills through Licking Heights’ High School Tech Internship Program

Licking Heights Local Schools is set to provide real-life experience and on-the-job technology training for 10 high school students through a new program, thanks to an investment from the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation. The High School Tech Internship program aims to reimburse employers in Ohio who host high school interns in technology-focused positions.

The selected interns will work with Licking Heights’ district technology team, which manages the cybersecurity and technology operations of all schools and buildings from PreK to 12th grade. They will be treated as entry-level tech employees and given the opportunity to learn in-demand skills such as data, cloud and IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, broadband/5G, and advanced mobility.

The inaugural class of Licking Heights technology interns includes Alex Bastola, Brooks Girum, Albert Holland, Zoe Kubinsky, Himanshu Mandal, Alina Mangeni, Brent Mathias, Emily McCord, Lily Wahl, and Lucas Wells. Students like McCord are hoping that this internship will open up opportunities for them in cybersecurity. For example, she plans to attend Ohio State University for computer science and engineering to become a cloud security analyst and will be assisting the district in transitioning to a cloud database during her internship.

On the other hand, students like Mandal are using the internship to gain the experience needed to work with central Ohio companies like Intel. Mandal is interested in chip research and manufacturing and aspires to work as an engineer at Intel after college. The High School Tech Internship program is a great opportunity for students to gain practical skills and experience in the technology field
