On the last Saturday of April, a local Tai Chi Club participated in World Tai Chi and Qigong Day in Triangle Park. The event, which promotes the benefits of practicing Tai Chi and QiGong, has been taking place globally for the past three years. Hundreds of clubs from at least 80 countries joined in the celebration, performing their forms at 10 a.m. local time to create a wave of energy and intention for world peace and health.

The motto for the event is “One World, One Breath,” emphasizing global togetherness and harmony. Initiated by Master teacher Bill Douglas in 1999, World Tai Chi and Qigong Day has been celebrated globally ever since. Tai Chi is often described as “moving meditation,” requiring practice to achieve the meditative benefits. Local beginner classes are available at the STEP Senior Center in Lock Haven. The Harvard Health Publications have recognized Tai Chi as “moving medication” due to its numerous health benefits.
