On Monday morning, aeronautical unions will stage information assemblies at the metropolitan Aeroparque and Ezeiza, which is expected to disrupt flights scheduled between 8 and 11 in the morning. These protests are in opposition to the approval of the Bases Law project, which includes reducing the non-taxable minimum, potentially causing a return to paying Income Tax for many aeronautical employees.
Since before taking office, the unions have been opposed to the Milei government’s policies, particularly regarding the privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas. The DNU 70 decision included privatization of the airline and the repeal of subsidies that the State provided. Aeronautical unions involved in this protest include Airline Pilots Association (APLA), Association of Aeronautical Technicians (APTA), Senior Staff Union (UPSA), and Aeronautical Personnel Association (APA).
The protest on Monday is just one in a series of actions planned by these unions. On Thursday, there will be a general strike. While low-cost airlines like Flybondi do not anticipate cancellations due to these protests, JetSmart may experience affected flights due to ramp services provided by Intercargo. However, foreign airlines landing in Ezeiza have not yet announced any disruptions due to these protests.
The unions are calling for ongoing action to push back against government policies and defend the rights of aeronautical employees. They plan additional actions in front of the National Congress beyond this week.
