Rural areas speak out: Government lacks progress on real solutions due to ‘politicking’

The country’s agriculture sector has been fighting for their demands since February 6, leading to agrarian revolts and protests. Despite the Minister of Agriculture signing an agreement with one agricultural organization, UPA, other organizations feel left out and criticize the lack of depth in finding solutions for agriculture and livestock.

In response to these criticisms, agro-food cooperatives and agricultural organizations have presented a document with 12 concrete measures to renegotiate solutions for the countryside. They will wait for a forum in May before deciding on specific protests. These measures cover a range of issues from Common Agricultural Policy to environmental concerns, including simplifying bureaucracy, recognizing the importance of both extensive and intensive livestock farming, adapting labor reform to the needs of the agriculture sector, addressing issues related to the Food Chain Law, and addressing global warming’s effects on agriculture.

These organizations are calling for a holistic approach to addressing the challenges faced by the agriculture and livestock sectors. They want to ensure that temporary agricultural employment is taken into account and does not lead to job insecurity. They also want comprehensive solutions involving multiple ministries and government bodies. The 12 measures represent a significant step towards finding long-term solutions for agriculture and livestock farming in this country.
