Texas A&M Texarkana to start construction on state-of-the-art building for business, engineering, and technology

Texas A&M Texarkana is set to construct a new $45 million academic building to address the high demand for degrees in business and technology-related fields. The groundbreaking event for the new building is set to take place on May 30, with the three-story building spanning over 50,000 square feet situated on the southwest side of the university’s campus. The building will connect existing science and technology buildings via walkways on the second and third floors.

Designed to accommodate the university’s growing need for degrees in these fields, the new building will house various mechanical engineering and design laboratories, a 255-seat lecture hall/auditorium for large lectures and events, and the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment. Additionally, updates will be made to existing spaces in the current Science and Technology building, including electrical engineering program laboratories.

A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander expressed gratitude to state legislators Rep. Gary VanDeaver, Sen. Bryan Hughes, Chancellor Sharp, and members of the A&M System Board of Regents for providing funding for this new facility. Dr. Melinda Arnold, A&M-Texarkana’s provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs, highlighted how interdisciplinary study opportunities that will arise from this new building allow for innovative ways of supporting learning while providing workforce-ready employees to businesses in East Texas and beyond.

The funding for this new construction was secured during the 87th legislative session in 2021, with excitement brewing among students and members of the community about what this Business, Engineering, and Technology building will bring as it nears completion.

In summary:

Texas A&M Texarkana is constructing a new $45 million academic building to meet high demand in business and technology-related fields by providing space for mechanical engineering labs, financial literacy center, lecture hall/auditoriums as well as updating existing science tech labs.
