Hundreds of new job cuts in tech industry shake Bay Area economy

As a journalist, I have rewritten the article as follows:

A person is seen walking towards the Lockheed Martin visitor center at 1111 Lockheed Martin Way in Sunnyvale. Recently, three high-profile tech companies have announced layoffs that will result in over 200 job cuts in the Bay Area. Among these companies is Lockheed Martin, an aerospace and defense contractor, which has decided to cut 68 jobs in Sunnyvale and Palo Alto effective June 10. Coherent, a semiconductor company, will also be laying off 61 employees in Santa Clara on the same date. In addition to these cuts, Hinge Health, a tech company specializing in online physical therapy, is planning to slash 77 jobs in San Francisco on June 11. All three companies have described the layoffs as permanent.

In April alone, over 949 tech industry job cuts were reported in the Bay Area. This exceeds the numbers of job cuts reported earlier this year but falls short of the staggering numbers disclosed in January and February of this year when over 38,800 job cuts were announced by tech companies in the region. With Apple revealing plans for an additional 614 layoffs at its Santa Clara location, it seems that technology sector continues to struggle with workforce reduction despite a few months’ respite from major announcements.
