On Thursday, the Buffalo Bills made two key additions to their defense by signing defensive tackles DeShawn Williams and Austin Johnson to one-year deals.
DeShawn Williams, a 31-year-old veteran, had a standout season in 2023 with the Carolina Panthers, recording 33 total tackles, seven quarterback hits, and a sack. Prior to joining the Bills, Williams played for the Denver Broncos for three seasons, where he recorded 4.5 sacks as a defensive end in 2022. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015 and played in four games during the 2016 season.
Austin Johnson, on the other hand, was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2016 and started 17 games for the Los Angeles Chargers last season, finishing with 46 total tackles and a forced fumble. This will be his second season in L.A., and he will now be joining forces with former teammate DaQuan Jones, who also played for the Titans.
The signings of Williams and Johnson add depth to the Buffalo Bills’ defensive line and bring experience to the team. Both players will be looking to make an impact and help the Bills improve on defense for the upcoming season.
