The 2027 Women’s World Cup is set to take place in South America, with Brazil emerging as the front-runner to host the tournament. Despite facing competition from a joint bid from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, Brazil has received a higher rating from FIFA’s technical inspection team.
Brazil’s victory was due in part to its plan to use venues from the 2014 men’s World Cup, which were well-maintained and easily accessible. In contrast, the European bid was found to have a “high-risk” legal and contractual framework that hindered its chances of winning.
Spain was the winner of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. With the United States-Mexico bid withdrawing to focus on the 2031 tournament, Brazil will face off against Europe for the next edition of the competition.
The decision will be made by FIFA’s 211 member nations at the FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. If Brazil wins, it will be a historic moment for both South America and women’s soccer as a whole. All FIFA member associations will have a free vote in the selection process, scheduled to take place next week at the FIFA Congress.
