Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite will be returning to tablets running iPadOS, along with its own digital store. This decision comes after the European Union’s Digital Markets Law designated iPadOS as a market access guardian and required it to open up to external applications.
Apple will need to modify iPadOS to comply with this law, allowing users to remove preinstalled applications and download apps from external sources. As a result of these changes, Epic Games is working to bring Fortnite and their store to iPhones in the EU soon, followed by a release on iPads later this year within the European Union.
This move follows Epic Games’ successful return to iOS devices with Fortnite and their store. The company is determined to make Fortnite available on iPads as soon as possible within the European Union, giving users more control over their applications and enabling support for downloading apps from sources other than the App Store.
