Students from Wyoming compete at National Science Bowl in Washington, DC

The National Science Bowl Championship in Washington marked the fifth consecutive year that Kelly Walsh High School won first place as the Wyoming Regional High School Science Bowl champion. This feat was a result of the KW Science Club’s hard work and dedication to preparing for competitions throughout the year. The Natrona County school district emphasized that part of the fun is learning how to quickly respond to questions and using strategic critical thinking skills to avoid making mistakes on the spot.

On the other hand, CY Middle School students are part of the school’s STEM Club, which explores advanced scientific knowledge and competes in the Science Olympiad competitions each year. In January to March, 115 regional high school and middle school teams competed for a chance to attend the National Finals. Unfortunately, Casper’s teams were eliminated before the finals.

The Department of Energy Office of Science Acting Director, Dr. Harriet Kung, expressed excitement at the start of the 34th National Science Bowl Finals. She noted that the event brings together some of the brightest young minds in the nation, showcasing the future of science and innovation. The top two middle and high school teams will earn $5,000 for their schools’ math and science departments, while other schools placing in the top 16 will receive $1,000 for their departments.
