NCAA Has Approved Technology Rules for 2024

In the ever-changing landscape of college sports, the NCAA has recently approved new rules that will take effect in 2024. These changes are aimed at enhancing the on-field product and making the game more closely resemble the NFL.

One of the key changes approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel is the introduction of a green dot on the back of a single player’s helmet on each team. This player will be able to communicate with a coach while on the field, with communication shutting off 15 seconds before the play clock expires. This move brings college football closer to the NFL in terms of in-game communication.

College games will also include a two-minute timeout similar to the NFL’s two-minute warning. The clock will stop at the two-minute mark of the second and fourth quarters, allowing for strategic decisions and game management. Other changes include the use of tablets on sidelines for reviewing game film and different camera angles.

Additionally, penalties for horse-collar tackles in the tackle box will now result in a 15-yard penalty, and coaches will have an opportunity to be interviewed by broadcast partners after each quarter. While these changes may not provide any direct advantages to specific teams like Oklahoma State, having an experienced coach like Mike Gundy can help navigate these changes effectively.
