With the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft, attention has shifted towards the upcoming class of 2025. In a way-too-early mock draft from CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Ryan Wilson, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is projected as the top pick. Sanders is considered a potential top selection for the 2025 class, with some experts even saying he would have been a top choice had he entered the 2024 draft. While some evaluators mention the need to manage Sanders differently due to his father’s involvement, they also praise his skills and winning mentality.
Sanders had a successful career at Jackson State before moving to Colorado with his father, Deion Sanders. Despite not entering the 2024 draft, he was highly regarded by NFL evaluators and considered a first-round pick had he decided to go through the process. Despite a 3-0 start to the season in 2023, Sanders’ Buffaloes struggled and lost seven of their final eight games. The high-powered offense led by Sanders averaged 30.8 points per game, but the defense gave up an average of 38 points per game.
While it is unlikely that Sanders would have surpassed Caleb Williams as the top quarterback in the 2024 class, he has demonstrated his talent on the field. In his time at Jackson State and Colorado, Sanders showcased his passing ability, completing a high percentage of his throws with a good touchdown to interception ratio. Along with highly-touted Travis Hunter, Sanders joined his father at Colorado where he continued to impress with his skills at the Power 5 level.
As we move closer to the draft in April next year, it will be interesting to see how things unfold for this talented young quarterback who has already shown promise in two different programs.
