Ryan Slocum (CompSci’24) has been recognized for his outstanding academic engagement and leadership skills, earning the 2024 graduating student academic engagement award from the College of Engineering and Applied Science. His accomplishments include serving as a T.A., completing three internships, participating in the President’s Leadership Class, and spearheading an initiative to map the leadership landscape at CU Boulder for the Center for Leadership.
Slocum’s nominations highlighted his fearless desire to learn, intellectual humility, and ability to excel while maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Winning this award is a significant milestone in his academic journey at CU Boulder and a testament to his involvement in various programs and opportunities. He feels proud to be among the college award winners and believes that this achievement is a culmination of his hard work, dedication, and passion for learning.
Looking back on his time at CU Boulder, Slocum has learned that trying new things, especially those that are intimidating, lead to personal growth and development. He advises others to embrace new experiences and face their fears as this is the key to achieving success and personal growth. Slocum credits his parents’ unwavering support, as well as his professors and peers in the President’s Leadership Class for their guidance and inspiration.
Moving forward, Slocum has set personal goals of competing in a 100-mile ultramarathon and obtaining a graduate degree in robotics to work on impactful projects in the field. He believes that these goals will help him grow both personally and professionally while making a positive impact on society.
