Dale Earnhardt Jr. Signs On as NASCAR Commentator for Amazon and TNT Sports

NASCAR is looking forward to a new chapter in its media rights deal, which is set to kick off next season. One of the sport’s legends, Dale Earnhardt Jr., will be joining Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports as a commentator for both networks starting in 2025. Earnhardt Jr., a two-time Daytona 500 winner, has been an analyst for NBC’s NASCAR coverage since 2018 but his contract with the network was due to expire by the end of 2024.

TNT Sports is returning to air NASCAR races for the first time since 2014, with Earnhardt Jr. set to provide commentary for NASCAR Cup Series races. He will also be featured in a Bleacher Report content series where he will interview special guests while driving them around each of TNT’s five NASCAR Sprint Cup Series tracks. Earnhardt Jr. expressed his excitement about TNT Sports’ return to the sport and his role as a commentator for the network.

In another exciting development, Amazon Prime Video will become a part of the NASCAR family next year. Earnhardt Jr. marks a significant addition to Amazon’s live sports coverage lineup, joining the likes of notable announcers Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit for NFL’s “Thursday Night Football.” Earnhardt Jr. will take on various broadcasting roles for races on Amazon Prime Video, with other roles yet to be announced.

As part of NASCAR’s new media rights deal spanning 2025-31, the coverage will continue to include NBC and Fox Sports, alongside TNT Sports and Amazon. NBC and Fox Sports will broadcast 14 NASCAR Cup Series races each, while TNT Sports and Amazon will share 10 midseason races. Amazon will also air practice rounds and qualifying events at the beginning of the year, while TNT Sports will cover the final practice and qualifying rounds of the season on Max and truTV. The addition of Earnhardt Jr. to the broadcasting teams promises an exciting future for NASCAR fans and the sport itself.

The new media rights deal has brought about several changes in NASCAR’s coverage strategy, with TNT Sports returning after a six-year absence from airing NASCAR races
