Vietnam is striving to become a regional innovation center and Ms. Paluline Tamesis, the United Nations representative in Vietnam, emphasized the importance of targeting innovators and young people to achieve this goal. She spoke at the 2024 World Creativity and Innovation Day response ceremony organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, where she commended Vietnam for its progress and potential as evidenced by its ranking on the global innovation index (GII).
Ms. Tamesis highlighted the importance of creativity in achieving development goals, including inspiring innovation in areas such as green technologies and technology to reduce carbon emissions. She stressed that creativity is not limited to scientists but also includes young people and ethnic minority groups, encouraging empowering young people in STEM fields.
Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat also spoke about Vietnam’s transition to a growth model based on science, technology, and innovation. He outlined three key tasks to promote creativity and innovation, including raising awareness about their role in socio-economic development, developing a national innovation system, and launching innovation activities in 2024. This ceremony marked the third year that the Ministry of Science and Technology organized an event to respond to World Creativity and Innovation Day with the aim of raising awareness and promoting innovation activities.
