On May 8th, four employees from Cho Lon Electricity Company sustained severe burns while working on an underground cable line in District 8. The incident occurred while they were repairing electricity and resulted in an electrical short circuit, fire, and explosion.
The workers were rushed to Cho Ray Hospital where doctors attempted to treat them. Dr. Ngo Duc Hiep, head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Cho Ray Hospital, reported that the most severely injured patient was a 28-year-old male with second and third-degree burns covering 80% of his body. He had burns on his head, chest, abdomen, limbs, and eyes.
Emergency doctors provided pain relief, intravenous fluids, tetanus prevention, blood tests, and CT scans for the patient. Despite their efforts, the prognosis for this patient remained difficult due to the extent of his burns.
The other three patients included a 46-year-old man with burns on his head and face, a 37-year-old man with burns on his ear and hands, and a 37-year-old man with burns on his hand and ankle. They were treated for pain relief and tetanus prevention before being discharged from the hospital.
