On April 6, 2024, the School of Public Health at the University of Nevada celebrated the opening of its new home in the recently renovated Edna S. Brigham Building with joy and pride. The occasion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with opening remarks from University leadership.
During his speech, President Sandoval warmly praised the School’s impact in the community and emphasized its role in preparing students to take on leadership roles in public health. He highlighted the School’s influence on policy, systemic changes, health program development and evaluation, service provision, and innovative research.
Under Dean Akpinar-Elci’s leadership since Fall 2021, the school has made significant progress. In her address on Thursday, she reflected on the journey that led to this day and expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort that brought the shared vision to life.
“Today we are not just celebrating bricks and walls,” she remarked. “We are celebrating the people who went above and beyond to help us create this space where passion meets purpose.” The new home in the Brigham Building represents a significant milestone for the School of Public Health, providing a dedicated space for students, faculty, and staff to continue their important work promoting public health and making a positive impact in their community.
