The Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana has recently launched a tech-savvy initiative called the Mobile Makerspace bus. This innovative program offers students access to cutting-edge technology tools and a “makerspace” environment where they can explore, share and collaborate on high-tech projects.
Oak Park Middle School is one of the first schools to benefit from this exciting program. Students are using iPads and coding language to create robots that follow specific routes, making learning fun and interactive. According to Chief Technology Officer for the Calcasieu School Board, Kim LeBlanc, this makerspace bus allows students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills by engaging in activities that enhance classroom learning.
The Mobile Makerspace bus is equipped with a range of technologies such as 3D printing, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. Students like Ca’leaa Simien are taking advantage of augmented reality to create digital art showcasing their creativity and technological abilities. Teachers can now book the bus for their students providing them with a unique learning opportunity without having to leave the school grounds.
