Hip replacement enables man to walk normally after 40 years of limping

52-year-old Mr. Dong has been living with ankylosing spondylitis of the hip since childhood. His condition worsened over time, causing his legs to be 4 cm apart and making him limp. However, after receiving an artificial hip replacement using the SuperPATH incision technique at Tam Anh General Hospital, he is now able to walk normally without pain or stiffness in his joints.

Suffering from hip ankylosing spondylitis since the age of 9, Mr. Dong experienced severe pain and stiffness in his joints, limiting his ability to engage in physical activities such as running and jumping. Despite trying various medications to alleviate the pain, his condition continued to deteriorate, leading to deformities in the right hip joint and a shorter right leg. A recent MRI revealed severe right hip osteoarthritis due to years of adhesive inflammation.

Under the care of MSc.BSc.CKI Dang Khoa Khoa, Head of the Department of Trauma and Orthopedics at Tam Anh General Hospital, Mr. Dong underwent a customized TraumaCad software selection for an artificial joint that matched his body’s unique needs, ensuring optimal outcomes for post-operative recovery. The minimally invasive SuperPATH incision technique preserved soft tissues, muscles, and joint capsules during surgery, resulting in quicker post-operative recovery with minimal pain and reduced recovery time.

Post-surgery, Dr. Hoc emphasized the importance of rehabilitation for patients like Mr. Dong to restore gait, improve muscle strength, increase joint mobility, and reduce the risk of post-operative complications such as infection or blood clots that may affect other parts of the body if left untreated or managed improperly.

Dr. Hoc highlighted that preserving a patient’s natural body parts should be considered in any medical treatment before resorting to surgery only when necessary.

Hip joint replacement is a major procedure that offers significant benefits in alleviating symptoms such as pain and stiffness while improving quality of life by reducing limitations on daily activities such as walking or climbing stairs.

Modern medical technology and advancements in surgical techniques have made post-operative recovery smoother with minimal pain and reduced recovery time compared to traditional methods used decades ago.
