In April, a series of bank robberies took place in the Gaza Strip, with Palestinian armed groups, including one posing as Hamas, stealing approximately 66 million euros. According to a report from the French newspaper Le Monde, the Bank of Palestine provided this information.
On April 16th, thieves entered the main branch of the Bank of Palestine in Gaza City through a hole in the ceiling and made off with safes holding about 2.8 million euros. The following day, they returned to the bank and detonated three safes containing around 29 million euros. Two days later, the total amount stolen by the robbers reached 33.6 million euros.
These incidents have brought attention to a significant security concern in the Gaza Strip, as armed groups continue to engage in criminal activities such as bank robberies. The Bank of Palestine is now working to address the vulnerabilities that allowed these robberies to occur and ensure the safety of their assets and personnel in the future.
